We had a successful Summer Flower Show at St Stephen’s Church Hall this year, despite the heatwave creating problems for our exhibitors, who still managed to enter 62 exhibits. We also had 6 entries for the members’ Art Show, all with very different interpretations of this year’s theme ‘A Walk in the Park’. Thank you to everyone who exhibited, without you, there would not be a show.
Our Chair, Peter, welcomed our guest the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Greer, who said she was delighted to be invited to the show and spoke appreciatively of the efforts of members in producing their exhibits. We then had a wonderful surprise, as our Mayor loves to sing and has a wonderful voice which we discovered when she sang a few phrases to express her appreciation of Luigi’s playing of light jazz on his saxophone. With no more ado, Luigi came back to the floor and accompanied the Mayor in an impromptu performance of a couple of songs, including ‘Summertime’ which delighted us all. Many thanks to Luigi for entertaining us throughout the afternoon!
It was lovely to welcome so many of our members and visitors to the show, and everyone enjoyed some delicious homemade cakes and the opportunity to chat with friends. Many thanks to those who kindly donated the cakes, and thanks also to Evelyn, Sam and Jan for their excellent service on the refreshment table.
Thank you to all our members who helped with the organisation of the show, both before in the preparation stage and on the day of show and to all those who took part in or attended the show and awards ceremony and helped the Society by purchasing sweepstake tickets.
